Record Awards and Record Results for Fitzgerald Contractors

Fitzgerald Civil Engineering Contractors are celebrating a record month for contract awards following the filing of record results for 2016/17.

The recently filed 2016/17 results illustrate a continued strong performance. Although turnover decreased by 2% to £31.29m, gross profit increased to £3.66m and operating profit to £2.05m, a record for the company.
The new financial year has seen three key pipeline projects progress to site, which has resulted in a secured workload position in excess of £30m, less than 3 months into the new financial year.

The £8m redevelopment of Centenary Square, Birmingham commenced on site in May and will be delivered in Partnership with Bouygues UK, for Birmingham City Council. The 16,000 square feet public realm scheme will redevelop Centenary Square, which sits in front of the City of Birmingham Library, the REP Theatre and the International Convention Centre. Scheme Architects Graeme Massie were selected through an RIBA International Design Competition, which resulted in the ‘Hall of Columns ‘design’ being selected.

The £4m Longbridge Connectivity scheme awarded by Birmingham City Council will commence on site in July and consists of a number of highway improvement schemes to support economic growth in Longbridge. The scheme aims to unlock jobs by improving access to the Regional Investment Site and overall Longbridge development and to reduce congestion, peak journey times and delays through the Longbridge area, by improving the roads and increasing junction capacity.

Finally Fitzgerald Contractors have secured a £5m scheme to deliver a new public realm scheme in the centre of Cardiff. The vision for Central Square is that it becomes a proud new Gateway to the Capital of Wales. The scheme, which is being undertaken for ISG, will incorporate high specification granite finishes, public art, street and amenity lighting, CCTV, Telematics, street furniture and landscaping.

Fitzgerald Contractors’ principle shareholder and Managing Director Nick Coley confirmed ‘Our 2016/17 results have seen record profit levels; this is an excellent result that has been achieved despite a small fall in turnover as a result of some key projects not progressing to site. The progression of these key prestigious projects to site over the past 2 months has resulted in a secured workload position in excess of £30m, which gives us confidence of an increased turnover level in 2017/18 and beyond. As a regional contractor who self-delivers projects, through a directly employed labour force, we believe we have a unique offering that is valued by our Clients. Our focus will remain on providing excellent customer service which is essential to the continued controlled growth of the business.’
