A4440 Sixways Park Section 278 Works, Worcester

A4440 Sixways Park Section 278 Works, Worcester

The Section 278 works involved the formation of a new traffic island to facilitate and greatly improve access from the A4440 highway to the new Sixways Park Logistics site that was also under development by Richardsons. The £460K scheme was delivered for Bowmer + Kirkland with the carriageway works involving advanced tree and hedge clearance, removal of temporary surfacing, installation of new drainage, kerb lines, signage and re-surfacing along with footway works.

The project team overcame a number of key challenges including undertaking work whilst maintaining pedestrian access and maintaining vehicular flow on the A4440 highway which is a key arterial link by-passing Worcester City and to junction 6 of the M5 motorway.

Prior to the scheme’s commencement the Fitzgerald team undertook a full preconstruction workshop with our supply chain to discuss the scheme and collaborate in order to safely deliver works whilst mitigating any potential impacts. The scheme required extensive reconstruction of the existing highway infrastructure together with significant statutory utility works.
