Over £50,000 raised for St Mary’s Hospice

Fitzgerald Contractors are delighted to have continued their support for St Mary’s Hospice in Birmingham with the presentation of a cheque for £50,469.00.

The funds were raised through Fitzgerald’s annual donation and their continuing support of the annual Treecycling Scheme. This scheme allows residents to book their Christmas tree collection for a minimum donation of £10, which are then collected by volunteers to be recycled into compost, mulch or biomass fuel.

Fitzgerald have supported Treecycling since its inception in 2014. Fitzgerald provided vans and volunteers to help the Hospice collect trees from homes across Birmingham and Solihull. Over 2,600 trees were collected over the weekend, a 50% increase from the previous year.

Emily Boat from the Hospice said: “We are so grateful to you and all of your teams for your time and enthusiasm during the weekend, as well as your continued patience, guidance and support throughout the project. We really couldn’t do it without your partnership’.

Nick Coley, Managing Director of Fitzgerald Contractors confirmed, ‘We have established a long-term partnership with St Mary’s Hospice as our chosen charity which enables us to work closely with them as a real partner. The Treecycling campaign is an excellent example of this collaborative approach. We have had the scope to work closely with the team at St Mary’s to build the campaign year-on-year, extending our postcodes for collection and increasing total income.

To collect 2,600 trees was a real challenge and the collection weekend was a real team effort, with our employees working alongside the Hospice staff and volunteers. It is great to know that every pound raised goes directly to Hospice services. We are already planning for next year’s campaign and targeting to increase the number of trees collected and the amount raised’.
