Highway Improvement Contract Win for Fitzgerald at Callendar Farm

Fitzgerald Contractors have been appointed to undertake a highway improvement scheme to provide a new permanent access to the Callendar Farm South residential development at The Long Shoot, Nuneaton. The c. £800k contract is a crucial infrastructure link for phase 2 of the development at the 20-acre site and is being delivered under a Section 278 agreement for Warwickshire County Council’s Framework for Engineering Construction Works Lot 1.

The 20-week scheme consists of localised widening of the existing A47 to facilitate a new traffic signal junction for the proposed residential development, associated footway widening, earthworks, provision of drainage and surfacing works.

As part of the contract, we will carry out the upgrade of existing street lighting and installation of a new controlled crossing facility and the introduction of new refuge islands. In addition, the existing traffic signals at the Greensdale Road / The Long Shoot junction will be upgraded. The scheme is characterised by several engineering challenges and logistical constraints, of particular note is carrying out works in a live environment on the A47, a high-speed road which also requires us to maintain pedestrian and vehicular access to the existing development site.
