Overcoming Early Design Issues & Project Buildability

As part of a highway improvement scheme at Longbridge for Birmingham City Council we undertook an Early Contractor Involvement contract. A significant risk to the satisfactory completion of the works was the performance of the various utility providers whose apparatus is affected by the works, due to complexity of each site and the interdependence of each provider’s performance with that of Fitzgerald’s contract performance.  In view of these risks Fitzgerald undertook a review of the utility works, and through a series of trial holes and coordination meetings, using our bespoke ’Utility Tracker’ system, reduced the construction programme from an initial 100 weeks to 70 weeks, together with significant traffic management cost savings. This example of working to attain best value saved circa £150K and client administration costs.
