A49 Wistanstow

£400,000

The scheme was principally the stabilisation of an existing embankment and removal of an adverse camber that was worsening as the embankment failed causing the location to be an accident blackspot.

The works consisted of the construction of a gabion retaining wall, repairs and extension of the existing culvert along with a new headwall structure. A new regulated carriageway over the existing carriageway to lift the levels producing the new super elevated profile.

Whelmar Bridge

Design and build project for the installation of the footbridge undertaken as part of the “Connecting Skelmersdale” project serving the Concourse Shopping Centre at Skelmersdale, West Lancashire.

The bridge was installed to replace an ageing structure and incorporated an innovative cable stay and mast solution to span a fast food restaurant and overcome the need for supports adjacent to the carriageway.

The scheme also involved careful planning and night time working to maintain daytime access into the Shopping Centre.

M50 Embankment

£612,000

The M50 is 21 miles long and runs through Gloucestershire, Worcestershire and Herefordshire. Fitzgerald Contractors delivered an embankment stabilisation scheme incorporating stabilisation of the existing embankment, construction of headaalls and the installation of a new gabion wall. The scheme also included partial construction of the hard shoulder, new drainage and crash barriers, temporary diversion of NMES cable, relocation of traffic signs and the reinstatement of road markings.
