Fitzgerald (Civil Engineer Contractors)

Alexandra Hospital

£1.1 million

This scheme involved the construction of a new car park, welfare building and waste compound along with alterations to the existing car parks and footways and the diversion of a water main.

This involved undertaking all of the civil engineering aspects in addition to co-ordinating the utility services into the welfare building along with project management of several sub-contract work packages including the building works, M & E services along with street lighting and staff access barriers, fencing, soft landscaping, surfacing and road markings.

This was a particularly challenging environment as the works were undertaken in a “live” hospital environment that required working closely with the Hospital Estates Department to ensure we minimised nuisance and ensured the safety of the visiting public and staff. This was achieved by using a designated vehicle access route and clearly defined pedestrian routes and protection measures to stop encroachment into the work area.
