Key Milestone at Centenary Square

The £12m redevelopment of Centenary Square saw a significant milestone achieved this week with the completion of the central shaft.

The 6m deep, 10.5m diameter shaft forms the subterranean heart of the development and the control centre for the 65m x 30m reflection pool. The shaft was sunk by Fitzgeralds specialist sub-contractor, marking the first of many milestones to come for one of Birmingham City Councils flag ship schemes. Drainage installation works are also well underway with the month also planning to see the installation of 2 large attenuation tanks.

Looking into the New Year container loads of granite paving will be arriving into the UK from China, to realise the high specification finish of landscape Architect Graeme Massey. Some 12,500m2 of granite paving will be installed before completion in Spring 2019, with the scheme being the largest granite paving scheme in Europe.
