Following the successful delivery of the North/South Link Road (NSLR) scheme for Harwell Science & Innovation Campus, Fitzgerald Contractors have subsequently negotiated the Harwell Phase 1A works which lead on from the original project.
The initial NSLR scheme was undertaken on a design and construct basis and included for a link road of circa 350 metres long joining Eighth Street with Thompson Avenue with the provision of a new Roundabout where the road crossed the existing Rutherford Avenue. In brief the scheme included for surface water drainage, deep foul drainage connection works, street lighting & signage, surfacing works, soft landscaping, together with a ‘Toad Tunnel’ beneath the new carriageway to deal with migrating Toads.
Throughout the NSLR scheme the Fitzgerald Team forged an excellent relationship with both the client and his team, the collaborative and mutual trust built up over the course of the project resulted in the project final account being agreed as the project was completed, for the sum of £1.317million.
The relationship formed led to the negotiation of the Phase 1A works which have now commenced on site.
The Harwell Link Road Phase 1A works are also being undertaken on a Design and Construct basis with a contract sum agreed at a price of £1.455 million. The works provide for a new link road from the previous NSLR at Becquerel Avenue to the main Campus Entrance at Fermi Avenue to accommodate future building works on the campus. In brief the scheme will include for foul drainage works (up to 5.4 metres in depth), surface water drainage, Surfacing, Street Lighting/Signage works, fencing and soft landscaping works. The works are currently ongoing with completion currently programmed until Easter 2016, this programme duration also includes for the provision of a temporary car park to accommodate construction traffic for future building works.
Managing Director Nick Coley confirmed, ‘The project continues to be a great success with all parties working together fantastically, we are delighted to have secured the second phase of works and look forward to the successful completion of the project and to working with the Client and Professional Team in the future.’
