Metro Plaza is the latest phase of the West Bromwich Town Centre redevelopment. Fitzgerald contractors are working on. It started on the 18th November 2013. Centro have teamed up with the council and contributed £200,000. Metro Plaza is an innovative scheme to improve links to the town’s shopping areas for commuters. A new public space will be created by West Bromwich Central Metro station, allowing pedestrians priority over the vehicles on the Ringway. As part of the work, the Ringway will be reduced in width to cut traffic speeds, making it easier for pedestrians to cross into the town centre. Other improvements include filling in the subway between the tram station and King’s Square shopping centre, new footpaths, high quality paving, street lighting and new trees planted in the area. It is anticipated that the scheme will be completed by summer 2014.
